It's Okay to Say 'No'
Date 4/27/2019
If you're someone who easily falls into a pattern of saying yes to every request, it's time to come to peace with the idea of saying no. This will give you the capacity to say yes to the things that matter most.
Why Can't You Say No?
There are many reasons why people have trouble saying no to others. Maybe you feel like you'll insult a friend or family member if you don't take them up on every request. If they truly respect you, they won't think any less of you for taking time for yourself. Of course, if someone you love is in need, you can take some time out of your own day for them. However, if a friend asks you on a shopping date and you'd rather curl up at home with a good book, it shouldn't hurt your friendship to turn them down.
Wanting others to like us is human nature. That said, through no fault of your own, there will be some people who just don't! Instead of trying to please these people, walk away from negative relationships so you can spend more time nurturing your own needs. Have a chat with a psychic online to identify relationships where you're caught in a cycle of trying to please the other person. Identifying why you have difficulty saying no will help inspire change in yourself.
Recognize Your Limitations
When you first start letting yourself say no to others, you may feel like you're failing in your responsibilities. That couldn't be further from the truth! Saying yes to everyone else means you're likely telling yourself no more often than not. If you're still feeling guilty, keep in mind that taking care of yourself is actually key to being there for others.
In fact, selectively saying no gives you time to say yes to the things that are truly important. There's always a chance someone will feel like you're slighting them, but that's not your responsibility to manage. When you give yourself the space to say no, you allow yourself to choose what you'd like to do — and can do — for yourself and the other people in your life.
Remind Yourself That You're Not Being Selfish
One of the hardest things for people who like helping others is getting over the feeling that you're being selfish if you do say no to someone. Remind yourself that you're constantly helping others. Those important to you know you're not selfish. Don't let yourself feel otherwise.
Only you can determine what you want and need. No matter how someone may try to make you feel, only you can make these decisions. If, even after you explain why you can't help someone, they try to make you feel guilty, gently remind yourself that this is their problem, not yours. An authentic psychic can bring clarity to any relationships that might be causing you unnecessary stress.
Once you know how to say no, you can learn how to better say yes. You'll have the freedom to do what's necessary for yourself and the time to explore things that matter most to you.
