Choosing Compassion When It Isn't Easy
Date 5/25/2019
It's easy to feel compassion for those we like and love. However, it's a bit harder to feel compassionate toward people we don't like or who have wronged us. When a situation like this comes up and calls on your compassionate side, here's how to rise to the occasion — even when it's not easy.
Look Beyond Their Behavior
If someone has deeply hurt you, it's going to be tough to show that person compassion. It's hard to interact with them, let alone feel sorry for them. The truth about hurtful and malicious behavior is that it often comes from a place of pain in that person's life. Enlist the help of a clairvoyant psychic to reveal the hidden truth behind the individual's behavior. Once you see beyond their behavior to the root cause, your feelings toward them will begin to soften.
Put Yourself in Their Shoes
Empathy and compassion are all about putting yourself in another's shoes. Everyone goes through difficult, trying, or traumatic times during their life, including people you dislike. Is their suffering any less worthy of sympathy than someone you do like? Put your emotions aside for a minute and focus on what the person is going through. You may be surprised to find that expressing care or offering help may shift that person's feelings toward you and turn the tide on the relationship.
Small Gestures Go a Long Way
Compassion doesn't have to be a big display. You don't need to have a huge outpouring of affection if you're not comfortable with it. Just sending a message of support or giving them a call to let them know you're there if they need help will suffice. Even a small gesture will mean a lot to that person. If you're a spiritual person, you could keep them in your prayers or go for an angel card reading for guidance on how to release any negative emotions you feel toward them.
See Their Good Side
Everyone has a good side, even people you don't like. Sure, they may say tactless things and annoy you with their arrogance, or you simply cannot see eye to eye. In life, you are never going to like everyone and not everyone will like you. Some people are just going to rub you the wrong way. Here's the kicker, though — there are others who like this individual. Therefore, they are not the ogre you consider them to be. They do have redeeming and likable characteristics. Try to focus on their good qualities, even if just for a while.
Showing compassion to people you dislike is one of the hardest things to do. However, when you can choose compassion over negative feelings, it will make you feel good and may also bring about a change in your relationship with the other person.
