Living in the world as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community is a real privilege, and a blessing, yet continues to have plenty of challenges and is by no means a walk in the park. Feeling safe and heard during a reading with a psychic/medium doesn't have to be a minefield.

Below is a cheat sheet listing suggestions for finding and working with a psychic reader that ensures you are comfortable and receive the information in a way that serves your highest and best as the unique person that you are, and quickly gets you to the insight that you're looking for, especially finding the love that's yours in this life.

What to Look For in an LGBTQIA+ Friendly Psychic Bio

Every active Psychic at Psychic Source has a rich bio page on the website that is full of useful information. Besides their photo, schedule, and reviews, there is much more to explore. With more than 250 psychics currently on Psychic Source, selecting the right one who can help understand LGBTQIA+ concerns can seem like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Let me share six tips on how to utilize the information presented on each advisor’s bio page to help you narrow down your selection depending on what your specific needs may be.

  1. My first suggestion, which is obvious and biased, is to choose a psychic/medium from PsychicSource.com. Even if their bio does not explicitly mention diversity or inclusion, you are safe to believe you will get a fantastic reading full of accuracy and love from someone who really does value diversity and inclusion. Thanks to the very selective nature of accepting only the best Psychic Advisors, they would not be working here if they didn’t.

  2. Inclusive language. The verbiage in their bio resonates with ideas of “all are welcome,” and diversity, dignity, and variety. Watch for infinitives and gerunds of inclusion like, “embrace, espouse, champion, etc.” The language that mentions a welcoming attitude toward sexual-affective orientation, gender identity, or expression is a surefire sign.

  3. Esotericism and spirituality. A bio that speaks of a reader who is nondenominational/spiritual and mentions little or nothing of religiosity. What this means is that you will see phrases of compassion and unity, humanism, truths that are salient to ALL beings. Conversely, I would be cautious getting a reading when the bio boasts of exoteric truths, commandments, and/or dogmatic leanings, principles that are “incontrovertibly” true. There is no “incontrovertible” truth. For more about this topic, Psychic Source Advisor Hunter explores the social, biological, and mental impacts of spiritual practices and personal identity within the LGBTQIA+ community

  4. Experience with Hermeticism which includes Tarot, Astrology, Qabalah/Kabbalah, Gematria/Numerology. The reason is these schools of thought are among many that recognize reincarnation. They recognize that inside of every woman is a man, and inside of every man is a woman. These thought platforms further teach that as beings who have reincarnated many times as either gender, balancing and not subjugating our male and female aspects is a function of reason.

  5. Watch for personal resonance/harmony. Here’s what I mean by that: the real compass, the most accurate psychic you will ever meet is inside of you.  That divine and unlimited part of you that only you and the Creator have access to. The problem is we are entangled with our own focuses, we get biases, filters, fears, blind spots, corrupted self-talk, and image, etc., especially when dealing with a concern of a personal nature (which is why you hear so many people who say you can’t read for yourself). Hence, it helps so much to receive insight from an unjaundiced eye, preferably one who, because they have so much in common with you, will also help you feel realignment with the Creator who loves you more than you will ever love yourself.

I, too, have my stable of psychic mediums I talk to daily and weekly. Sexual orientation being the same is not necessary, but the ambiance is. Example: my neighbor is a hardcore vegan. Suggesting she get a reading from my good friend who is an Inuit is not the best idea. You want a reader who can easily harmonize with your personal Universe and then get out of the way while they receive and deliver insight to you from higher frequencies.
  1. Use the Psychic Source website filters. Finally, when all else fails, technology to rescue. Upon being hired, each Psychic is given a list of subject expertise to check off. One of those topics is “LGBT Relationships.”  This is not to say if someone has not selected this, they still can’t help, but knowing this is something they consider themselves to be an expert in is helpful.

To find out who falls into this category, start on the “Our Psychics” page, which lists the entire Psychic Advisor community. Then on the left of the screen (on a computer) or at the top (on a mobile device) use the Filter option. Choose “Subject & Expertises” and expand the menu, to reveal “Love, Relationships & Family.” Then further expand that and you will see “LGBT Relationships” as an option. Click on that (and any other filters you may want) and then hit Filter to narrow your search.

To Tell or Not to Tell?

Now to a question that is asked all the time…  Is it better to let the Psychic know your sexuality up front or allow it to come through naturally during the reading?

To be honest, they are both good ideas depending on what you are looking for. However, my personal suggestion is to keep things simple, terse, and direct. Sort of like Sergeant Friday from Dragnet, or Tupac Shakur’s lyric style, or Mohammed Ali’s boxing style of get in and get out, quick, sting like a bee. Time is valuable, especially your time. So be blunt and direct:

Such as:

“Mr. or Mrs. Psychic Reader, my name is Mr. Universe. I am calling about my boyfriend Captain America. He and I had a tiff. I found a bunch of crazy stuff on his phone. Is this relationship over? When will I hear from him next?”

See that. Everything important and nothing else is laid out succinctly. Your answer will be laid out tight and succinctly. No muss or fuss.

Conversely, what about staying general and letting the details come through naturally? You may prefer this approach too, especially if you are still questioning or discovering your own sexuality or that of someone else in your life.

For example:

“I am calling about my soulmate. We had a tiff over some material on a cellphone. Is it over for us? When will I hear from them again?”

Some people might argue that you will get a more authentic reading staying general like the second question above. That it will be interesting and informative to see what the reader can pick-up or not, naturally.

This type of approach is a slippery slope for a couple reasons. The first reason is time. Getting the specific insights you are looking for may take a bit longer because the broader the initial question is, the higher quantity of clarification questions will likely be needed (for both you and the reader), and it thusly gives the reader room for a more meandering style. Time is your money; therefore meandering is your money.

The second reason staying general is a slippery slope is a reason I privately call the Michelle Factor.

The Case for Being Direct with Your Psychic

I have a gorgeous friend named Michelle. She is an absolute doll. The archetypal woman’s woman, a Femme Fatale. She’s built like Marilyn Monroe. She is late fifties and looks late thirties. And true to form, she has decimated many a man’s heart. I met Michelle back in the Big Hair 1980s. We were in the Marines together. 0311 Marine Corps infantry. I won’t go into the different situations we were shipped to in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I will say Michelle at that time was a tough guy, a man’s man (a different first name, too).

This being the case, if I were to get a reading from someone on my old pal Michelle, are they going to pick-up on the Jennifer Rabbit version or the knuckle-busting squad leader I met at Camp Pendleton who liked to pick fights with sailors and hippies? See what I mean? We are all, individually and en masse, a beautiful gestalt of identity and color, like a rainbow, it can be a risk to be broad when extending questions to a psychic/medium.

More often than not, you will get more bang for your buck being specific or direct with your Psychic Advisor (about LGBTQIA+ issues or anything on your mind).  If you want another way to think of it, if you go to your doctor would you start off with “Doc, I don’t feel good, can you help me?” or “Doc, for the past few days my stomach really hurts. I also have a pounding headache and a sore throat, can you help me?”  You will likely get to the same diagnosis eventually either way, but the first approach requires the doctor to do more of the work to find out what is the matter when in the second approach, you’ve already taken care of that and now he or she can start by asking more specific questions to help narrow the problem faster.

Of course, if you don’t know exactly what is wrong, you just know there is an issue and you feel “off”, being general may be the best way to start and let the doctor guide the appointment. But at the end of the day, being psychic doesn't mean we possess what is known as "gaydar" either.

The Importance of Inclusive Language

Each year, June 28th commemorates the 1969 riots at Stonewall, New York. This was a pivotal time for the LGBTQIA+ community, as it kicked off the yearly Pride Day celebration of June 28. A time to celebrate the equality, dignity, and inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. You would think that as a psychic reader born and raised in San Francisco I would be an expert at inclusive language. No. I am a flop, but I am learning something new every reading.

Any patience and understanding I have I owe it to my callers who teach me so much about love. Each and every one of them. My closing suggestion to anyone, LGBTQIA+ community or not, who is wanting insight from a psychic/medium, is to use what I call the “Polyamorous Approach,” which is how I manage myself when I am needing or wanting insight. When I am angry I call one specific reader (they let me vent), when I am nervous or in pain I call a different reader who is radiantly positive (almost Pollyanna), and when I am wanting to clean-up my act, I call a particular Scorpio reader who seems to relish telling me when the emperor has no clothes on. That’s right. I have multiple readers I call depending on my mood or frame of mind. They are my team.

Now you need to discover your own team! It doesn’t have to all be psychic advisors, but a nice cross section of friends, family, co-workers and others who you can be yourself around when you need to seek guidance and advice as life does it’s thing.  If you want to get started with something fast and free, check out our one card tarot reading, created for the LGBTQIA+ community. It showcases how the tarot can be used as an inclusive and affirming tool for self-exploration.

I sincerely hope the advice and stories I’ve shared help you establish your team and your love, with feelings of inclusion and dignity.
